Growing in Prayer & Faith

St. Boniface Catholic Church has been rooted in prayer since its beginnings as a mission church in 1906. For generations, parishioners have gathered to pray for one another, for the Island community, and for the needs of the wider world. Prayer has carried families through hardship, strengthened faith during difficult times, and united our parish in hope and trust in God.

During our 120th Anniversary year, we continue this tradition by deepening our shared prayer life. Parishioners are invited to pray the Prayer to St. Boniface each Sunday at Mass and in their own homes throughout the week, asking for the intercession of our patron saint and giving thanks for the blessings of the past 120 years. Parishioners are also encouraged to pray the St. Boniface Novena, which took place from May 27 to June 5, concluding on the Feast Day of St. Boniface.

Throughout the anniversary year, parishioners expressed their faith in various personal ways. During May and October, many lit vigil candles as intercessory prayer, and some chose to pray the rosary—individually or in small groups, offering more than 120 rosaries for the intentions of our parish.

On August 16, 2026, our parish gathered to celebrate the 120th Anniversary Mass, officiated by Bishop Thomas Dowd. The church was full with parishioners, families, and visitors who joined in thanksgiving for our long history of faith on St. Joseph Island. During this Mass, we also witnessed parishioners receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, a joyful sign of faith growing within our community.

These practices, simple, meaningful, and rooted in tradition, help us grow in prayer and faith as one parish family. They remind us that our anniversary year is not only a celebration of history, but a call to deepen our relationship with God and one another.
